Transforming an 8-Campus Portfolio with an Independent Data Layer

Facing security gaps, siloed data, and a tangle of disconnected smart-building platforms across 8 campuses, TCC turned to Novant to build a single, independent data layer that unified it all. With no inbound firewall rules and an architecture IT approved in days, a single team member onboarded all 8 campuses in weeks – giving facilities their first-ever complete view of every building from one place. Reporting that took days now takes seconds, and the same normalized dataset powers continuous commissioning and a smart-building front end without a single custom integration.

One Building, One Data Layer,
Four Applications

A 146,000 SF community sports complex packs in a dense mix of systems: a full mechanical plant, indoor air quality across nine zones, energy and water metering, and a radiant slab that heats the turf itself. Rather than wire each downstream tool to the building one integration at a time, OCDA used Novant to bring all of it into one data layer. That single dataset now powers RESET air and energy certification, automated carbon accounting, a public smart-building front end, and full building-performance simulation.

A Proving Ground for Data They Could Never Unlock Before

Stanford set out to solve building data access once and for all – not project by project, but as institution-wide infrastructure. They chose Novant to create a data layer for the whole institution and made the Gates Computer Science Building its proving ground, testing a single normalized dataset against multiple applications and multiple teams at the same time. It worked where past efforts hadn't: groups that had never been able to share building data were suddenly drawing from one clean source, and integrations that used to stall stood up cleanly. With the model proven in Gates, Stanford has a repeatable blueprint for unlocking data across the entire institution.
